Job Description

• DFS is seeking a competent Whisky Connoisseur to act as the in-store whisky expert, able to readily determine the needs of customers, make the appropriate recommendations and acts as consultant for customers who wish to purchase whisky
• The Whisky Connoisseur develops and grows a strong customer base and builds long term relationships with customers on the sales floor to maximise sales opportunities and repeat visits
• The Whisky Connoisseur provides sales leadership and product knowledge to the team and in doing so, motivates and inspires the team members to work collaboratively in driving excellent customer service, achieving sales target, and cultivating a strong passion for whisky within the team.
• Apart from working on the sales floor, the Whisky Connoisseur partners and collaborates with brands and stakeholders, including Client Services team, in executing promotions and events to drive whisky initiatives for customers, LoyalT and high net-worth members

Key Responsibilities:
Whisky Lead for Spirits Category
• Advise customers and make the appropriate recommendations on whisky purchases based on customers’ profile, needs and preferences
• Adept at customer engagement and salesmanship by demonstrating excellent service and selling skills with a desire to help customers to make the right choice
• Partner with the Product Sales Manager to provide sales leadership on the ground by seeking out and helping the team to achieve sales target for whisky
• Highly visible on the sales floor especially during peak periods and be the eyes and ears for the whisky category, share feedback with regional merchandising manager and global merchants on customer feedback and issues on assortment, stock inventory and promotions on a timely manner
• Work closely with stakeholders on whisky promotions to ensure effective communication and efficient execution of promotion plans and props, including post-event results to drive success for such events
• Work closely with Product Sales Manager in stocking and placement of whisky products to ensure strong inventory, visual effectiveness and space productivity
• Oversee and manage tasting stock effectively and at the same time, ensuring the cleanliness and organized placement of tasting kits at the tasting counters at all times.
• Take part in Merchandising meetings and pro-actively participate and contribute innovative ideas to promote whisky
• Enforce all company policies and procedures, including health, safety and security
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager Consulting for Prestige Sales
• Build strong relationships as a professional whisky consultant to DFS LoyalT and high net-worth customers
• Build a strong database of customers with discerning taste for whisky to drive strong results for this category
• Establish strong working partnership with whisky influencers and media personalities
• Be the face for DFS and subject matter expert during marketing campaigns and media events that focus on exclusive and prestige whiskies Training & Tasting
• Identify whisky education opportunities for customers and team
• Readily teach, train and influence team members on whisky knowledge and appreciation
• Lead and organize whisky training and tastings with brands, including facilitating resources and logistics to accomplish the training objectives
• Collaborate and partner with DFS University on the execution of certification for the Whisky Program and WSET for Spirits

Key Requirements:

• Diploma in Hospitality or similar
• At least 5 years’ experience in whisky retail sales
• Experience as a Whisky Consultant or Expert Licenses / Certifications
• WSET Level 3 Advanced or similar, e.g. Certified Whisky Expert from an accredited institution.
• Possess a passion for whiskies
• Extensive knowledge of different whiskies, their producing origins, understanding of whisky production process
• A good knowledge of whisky pricing in the market an advantage.
• Strong communication skills
• Vibrant personality, open to share and involve others
• Availability to work on shift, during weekends and holidays
• Willingness to attend events beyond work hours and on non-work days
