VP, Corporate Affairs, Communications & CSR

Job Description

The role has a global responsibility for identifying, developing, and executing the corporate affairs strategy to support, protect, and grow the Company’s business - comprising CEO communications, corporate reputation, issues & crisis management, strategic communications, and media relations. The role also acts as the Global Head of CSR and be responsible for steering the Company’s corporate philanthropy and social purpose initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, refine and have oversight of the DFS narrative across all communication mediums and ensure consistent tone of voice which aligns to our brand positioning.
  • Counsel the CEO and peer leaders on communications perspectives related to business decisions and issues. 
  • Develop and produce compelling and engaging content that positions the company as the leading global luxury travel retailer and a partner of choice within the travel and retail industries, for use in press releases, interviews, speeches, conferences, industry events and more.
  • Act as single point of contact to DFS’ trade media and the wider business/corporate media.
  • Advise senior business leaders on communications issues and opportunities. Work to position them as spokespeople for the company in key trade and business media interviews, commentaries, speaking engagements etc., as appropriate.
  • Define communication strategies for organizational/divisional initiatives including store openings and closures, flagship events such as the DFS Masters program etc., and ensure consistency of messages across the company. 
  • Structure the DFS communications strategy and roadmap to be effective, including proactive and reactive messaging for short- and long-term success. 
  • Ensure all aspects of communication are aligned with company objectives, in collaboration with senior leadership. 
  • Develop and implement measurements to determine effectiveness of the overarching communications strategy, using tools including media AVE and social listening. 
  • Act as key point of contact in issue management and crisis communications. Develop proactive and reactive scenario messaging and refine as needed in the moment, working with leaders across the business.
  • Define and communicate our Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy
     

Key Requirements

  • Be a strong, knowledgeable communications strategist with a track record in successfully executing corporate strategy through clear, effective and compelling communications. 
  • Possess excellent interpersonal/people skills with the proven ability to build relationships at a global level across the business and within the global media community. 
  • Able to be a trusted advisor to senior executives across the group on corporate communication strategies and reputational risks and issues.
  • Have understanding of complex business issues and the ability to translate into engaging, audience-appropriate communications across multiple mediums.
  • Possess at least 15 years of experience in corporate communications; either in a global corporate communications role, in a senior leadership position at a media firm or with a respected communications consultancy. 
  • Be an outstanding writer.
  • Possess excellent native-level English language skills. Chinese language skills is a must.
