Loss Prevention Investigator
Overview:
You will be an important member of the Lost Prevention Team and will protect DFS’ Company assets by identifying/mitigating potential areas of loss. You will perform investigative loss preventions duties, as well as retail physical security duties, to ensure that all staff and customers are in a secure and safe environment.
Your Responsibilities include:
- Protect DFS Company assets by identifying potential areas of loss through pilferage, fraud, embezzlement, and theft (internal and external)
- Conduct comprehensive investigations, including thorough documentation, video review, and summary reports
- Maintain a Case File, with open/closed Cases/Inquires
- Monitor CCTV and alarm equipment to reduce shrinkage, prevent loss, and apprehend “in-progress” theft suspects
- Execute merchandise security checks, checkpoint inspections, and conduct ad-hoc employee exit searches
- Audit POS exceptional transactions and cash variances
- Ensure DFS Properties are monitored for (potential) shoplifters, using plain-clothes surveillance techniques
- Shoplifter apprehensions will be carried out in strict accordance with DFS Policy and Procedures and in a manner whereby it is to the best of your knowledge that the Company is protected from any legal liabilities
- Liaise with Law Enforcement Agencies frequently; Municipal, State and Federal, including participating in the prosecutorial process
- Testify in legal/court proceedings as needed, including responding to Court-Ordered Subpoenas
- Monitor building premises and shop floor for safety and security hazards such as fire, power failure and render assistance in such emergencies
- Report any accident/injury/hazard in the workplace to manager or the site OHS Representative using the DFS’ systems and the logbook
- Patrol building premises/shop floor to prevent external and internal pilferage and report any loss uncovered for immediate action
Key Requirements
- Secondary School or High School Diploma equivalent
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Loss Prevention, Retail Security or similar field
- Previous experience in an Investigative Role, demonstrable ability to conduct “beginning-to-end inquiries,” with little guidance
- Report-Writing Capabilities, including systematically documenting events in a coherent and organized fashion
- Current CA Guard Card
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check, as required
- Able to engage with persons during circumstance involving arrest for theft or other unlawful behavior
- Able to appropriately address situations involving unruly or disorderly persons
- Able to work flexible hours and shifts, including weekends, nights and holidays as required by the needs of the business
