Local Buyer Manager, Oceania

Job Description

We are seeking a charismatic, confident, seasoned professional, who excels at strategy, numbers and brand relationships, to join our Auckland based DFS NZ management team. . 

With a dual reporting line to the Senior Manager of Food and Gifts and the VP Retail Operations Oceania, the Local Buyer Manager is responsible for developing and managing the categories / department strategies including but not limited to global & local food & gifts, local beauty, local fashion, local footwear and local accessories; assortment plans, vendor negotiations and relations, exclusive product development, retail price management, merchandise plans, promotional planning, purchase order placements and achievement of the financial objectives. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of category sales, gross margin and turnover performance to plan
  • Forecasting, purchase order placement and monitoring of overall inventory levels to plan and forecast
  • Developing financial objectives and targets for the team that focus on category and brand growth and profitability
  • Identifying and evaluating sales and gross margin opportunities at the department level
  • Establishing and implementing long and short-term strategic direction for the departments that are consistent with global categories strategy and division strategy
  • Managing “Open to Buy”, responsible for buy runs, age inventory management and expiry clearance. Ensure accurate and timely completion of department OTB every month at the division and group level
  • Developing and executing assortment strategies for total categories
  • Negotiating terms, pricing and details to maximize sales, margin and inventory
  • Monitoring productivity through reports and react to change strategy pro-actively
  • Running competitive strategy, including assortments, promotions, pricing, seasonal  conversion etc.
  • Managing store and division relationships (communications and execution of strategies, focus, promotions, clearances, etc.)
  • Monitoring distribution to store, communicate minimum presentation stocks, needs and changes to the Distributors
  • Managing floor space productivity and inventory liaising with local operations team

 

Key Requirements

To succeed in this rare unique position, you will possess the following:

  • Ideally 3-5-years of recent experience in a similar role in covering merchandising and/or planning
  • Proven experience in developing and executing planograms, analyzing productivity, executing category management and pricing strategies
  • Competency in Strategy, in terms of creating and communicating category strategies and incorporating emerging product trends
  • A high level of comfort with numbers and analysis
  • The communication, presentation, people and negotiation skills required to manage and lead relationships with local and international business partners and brands
  • The ability to be resourceful and handle multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure environment
