Mgr, Payroll

What you'll be doing?

The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing, managing, and administering Payroll, Payroll Accounting, and HRIS functions for the U.S. Division in support of the company’s strategic business objectives and in compliance with applicable governmental rules and regulations. This position manages the daily operations of the U.S. Payroll and HR support function, while partnering closely with U.S. Division HR and Talent Management. Additional key partnerships include Finance, Total Rewards (Compensation and Benefits), and third-party vendors.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Managerial

  • Responsible for managing pay data, payroll processing, payroll accounting, and the payroll account reconciliation process.
  • Ensures that proper policies and procedures are in place to meet: 

o       Governmental regulatory requirements

o       Internal and External Audit requirements

o       Company reporting requirements

  • Manages the team’s task load, productivity, and performance.
  • Provides cross training for staff to ensure there is strong back up capabilities.

 

Payroll and Global HR Shared Services Processes

  • Ensures that personnel data changes affecting payroll are input timely and accurately.
  • Ensures that internal and external interfaces between HR Data, Timekeeping, Payroll systems, and the General Ledger are maintained properly.  [Success Factors, SAP HR, Kronos, ADP Vantage, and SAP Finance] 
  • Ensures that regular pay runs are completed timely and accurately.
  • Ensures that Special pay runs are completed timely and accurately.
  • Annual Bonuses; Merit Increases; Imputed income etc.
  • Responsible for driving process improvements and system enhancements
  • Responsible for the handling of exception payroll related queries and ad hoc / quarterly / year-end statistical reports for Group Finance, internal auditors and external auditors.

 

Payroll Accounting

  • Oversees and approves the payroll accounting for all regular and special pay runs, including ensuring that costs are mapped to the correct ledger accounts.
  • Oversees and approves the accounting and true up process for payroll benefit related liability accounts such as PTO accruals, pension accruals, and severance accruals, as well as the payroll tax liability accounts.

 

Vendor Relationships

  • Responsible for managing the relationship with the Third-Party Payroll Provider – including ensuring that the services provided are done so accurately and timely and billings are in conformance with contract.
  • Responsible for working with the Third-Party Provider for expatriate tax services and equalization.
  • Primary point of contact for the external auditors during payroll and year end audits.

 

Reporting

  • Responsible for payroll related reporting requirements such as month end, analysis reports, earnings reports, budget and ad hoc report requests.

 

Partnerships

  • Acts as primary resource for U.S. HR Division in regard to payroll related governmental rules and regulations.  
  • Works in partnership with Group Finance to ensure proper reconciliation of Payroll accounts.  
  • Works in partnership with Total Reward to ensure expatriate payroll is setup properly and the tax implications are properly considered.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor Degree  
  • Strong accounting background preferred.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred 
  • More than 5 years payroll and HR experience. 
  • At least 3 years of managerial experience. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

 

  • Microsoft office skills
  • Advanced excel skills.
  • Knowledge of Kronos and ADP Vantage preferred
  • Ability to articulate and communicate well, both verbal and written

The salary range for this position is $100,000-$115,000. Placement within this range will be based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This role is eligible for an annual bonus program.
