Associate Merchandising Manager, Food & Gift (Private Label)

Job Description

We are seeking a high-caliber individual with a keen eye for details and strong analytical skills to join as the Associate Merchandise Manager, Private Label. You will partner with the Merchandise Manager to implement product development initiatives, manage product life cycle, conduct market research, and source manufacturers. You will negotiate for the highest quality products at the most favorable commercial terms and ensure each product category meets their respective financial targets.

 

Strategy Development and Execution

  • Establish and implement short-term direction and long-term strategic vision that are consistent with global category and division strategies  
  • Identify assortment opportunities and develop new product categories, source new vendors on top of the existing core products and manufacturers. This includes attending trade shows, compiling data regarding minimums, logistics, pricing and conducting competitive analysis
  • Project manage the new product development with vendors, including coordination of label art review, packaging design, nutrition labels and related approvals
  • Coordinate accurate and timely completion of vendor and item setup documents inclusive of legal documents like vendor contracts, licenses, and certificates. Update documents to reflect program changes as required
  • Partner with inhouse and external teams; creative, visual merchandising, store design, marketing, quality control, compliance and legal to ensure outstanding and compliant execution
  • Partner with Learning & Development to build training modules and provide training
  • Negotiate terms, minimum quantities, pricing, and details to maximize sales, margin, and inventory. Run competitive strategy, promotions, pricing, activations, etc.
  • Work closely with the planning partner to manage “Open to Buy”, responsible for buy runs, age inventory, discontinued SKU management and expiry clearance
  • Manage and nurtures vendor relationships
  • Manage floor space and productivity
  • Manage store relationships (communications and execution of strategies, focus, promotions, clearances, etc.)


Financial

  • Deliver category sales, gross margin, and turnover performance to plan
  • Develop financial objectives and targets for the team that focus on department and brand growth and profitability
  • Identify and evaluates sales and gross margin opportunities at the department level


People Development

  • Encourage and support the development of talents; offer honest and constructive feedback to direct reports and business partners to foster people development

Key Requirements

  • University Degree preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience in an Associate level position in department or specialty store is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in merchandising 
  • Knowledge of the packaged food industry and gifts (RTW, Travel, Bath & Body, Wellness, Kids etc.)
  • Previous private label and international business experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a special sensitivity to work in a multi- cultural environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and work independently
  • Impeccable project management skills
  • Able to clearly articulate concepts and communicate across organizations at all levels
  • Internationally mobile for career advancement opportunities, with potential relocation depending on the business needs
  • Proficient in Excel and other merchandise-related systems
  • Good command of written and spoken English is required, Cantonese/ Mandarin will be a plus
  • Travel occasionally when required
