Assistant Manager, Merchandising, Food & Gift

Job Description

DFS is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Merchandise Manager to support the Merchandise Manager. You should demonstrate extraordinary communication skills, as you will work close with external vendors and our regional teams in managing assortment grids, promotions and markdowns. You will monitor sales performance of specific product category, and recommend action plans to your manager. 

  • Develop budgets and/or sales targets, promotions and assortment plans for one segment of a category
  • Format, analyze and review data for budget and vendor meetings; recommend actions steps to the Merchandise Manager and Planner
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors for a segment of a category
  • Communicate effectively with Planning Manager, Communication Coordinator and Product Sales Manager to ensure buy-in and consensus from them
  • Report results against financial objectives for a segment category; suggest action plans to Merchandise Manager
  • Communicate and monitor sales promotions, product knowledge and special events/store training
  • Communicate standards of visual presentation; work with Sales Promotion teamto develop promotional collateral for in-store marketing of key product drivers 
  • Maintain vendor information in DFS’ Merchandise Systems database
  • Compile statistical data using Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint for monthly report, strategy books and any other ad-hoc presentations 

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above
  • 1-2 years’ experience in merchandising and/or planning preferred
  • Good multi-tasking and problem solving abilities 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work well with personnel at various levels
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English
