Assistant Manager, Legal

Job Description

Based in Hong Kong, the Assistant Legal Manager is a core member of the Legal and Compliance Department (LCD) reporting to the Manager, Legal Counsel. 

  • Preparing and reviewing legal documents including a variety of commercial and retail-related agreements in English and Chinese.
  • Preparing documentation for the maintenance of corporate entities (board resolutions, annual filings, annual general meetings, etc.).
  • Working in tandem with LCD to deliver and enforce internal DFS policies and guidelines.
  • Preparing legal training materials and delivering relevant legal training programmes
  • Drafting and updating standard contract templates.
  • Maintaining up to date legal knowledge database in relevant areas of law.
  • Assisting the business to resolve claims and disputes with customers.
  • Coordinating with outside counsels and corporate secretarial firms.
  • Responding to requests from internal auditors and/or external auditors. 
  • Responding to ad-hoc legal queries.

Key Requirements

  • Law Degree from reputable law school, Hong Kong Qualified solicitor is a plus
  • 4 years’ PQE experience with top-tier international law-firm or multi-national retail environment will be preferable
  • A solid background in contract law and an ability to apply that knowledge in a pragmatic way
  • Demonstrate knowledge of corporate and commercial law, including company secretarial matters
  • Strong drafting skills and extensive experience of contract negotiation
  • Speak fluently in lay terms to a range of audiences about the business and legal priorities.
  • Have strong project management skills, work ethic and a high energy level with an ability to handle a fast-paced, vigorous schedule. 
  • Demonstrate a positive, professional, and collaborative demeanour and strong business acumen to gain the confidence, trust and reliance of colleagues. 
  • Maintain established relationships with external legal resources characterized by credibility, respect, and trust
  • Take a pro-active and detail-oriented approach
  • The ability to work independently in an exciting, fast-paced and constantly evolving environment 
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication skills in English and Chinese
  • High proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
