Assistant/ Manager, Freight( Asia South & Oceania)

The Freight Asst/ Manager's primary function is overseeing and managing flow of freight to ensure efficient transit times, optimization of logistics flows (in freight handling and freight cost). In cooperation with the Senior Manager of Global Freight, the Freight Asst/ Manager will work with incumbents and potential new Freight Forwarding Partners in Asia to obtain optimal freight cost structures/ The Freight Asst/ Manager functions as a link between Control Tower (CT), Freight Forwarders (LSPs) and the different DFS Business Partners. 


Freight Management

  • Partnership with DFS Control Tower (CT) to ensure seamless and optimized freight movements
  • Maintains strong relationship with the assigned Freight Forwarders (LSPs)
  • Executes regular reviews with LSPs on service quality
  • Regularly review rates for all Asian and Oceania origins shipments, identifies best route to market solutions with LSPs to mitigate shipments delay and meet deadlines
  • Creates and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and LSP's guidelines
  • Maintains daily overview of exception reports and follow up on shipment/ issue updates with individual Logistics Coordinators
  • Keeps LSPs and CT informed of shipment exceptions or any special shipment handling requirements
  • Collaborates daily within DFS Logistics community, as well as with various stakeholders on operational matters, such as Warehouse, Shipping & Planning Teams
  • Supports Finance Teams on Freight-related settlement issues; Where necessary escalates to LSPs or CT to drive resolution
  • Oversees DFS open claims with LSPs and CT; ensure claims are addressed in a timely fashion by LSPs or CT (whichever applicable)
  • Partners with CT to maintain and deliver reports necessary to protect the robustness of the supply chain
  • Undertakes any other tasks or projects as may reasonably be expected within the role of Freight Asst/ Manager

  • Review and improve processes with CT
  • Support Business Development Initiatives & New Store Openings
  • Support Global Supply Chain initiatives (Automation, Reverse Logistics, etc)


Develop and lead the Freight team

  • Recruit and build effective teams
  • Motivate and federate the team
  • Provide development opportunities to the team
  • Conduct annual appraisal meetings, set individual/ collective objectives and give feedbacks
  • Provide day-to-day direction concerning work assignments, overtime requirements and priorities

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant academic area such as Engineering, Accounting, etc. may be substituted
  • 3 - 5 + years of experience in Freight industries, either freight forwarding or relevant experience with international freight
  • Fluency in English
  • Demonstrates a collaborative attitude in managing multiple stakeholders, and cross functional teams
  • Ability to actively participate in complex, cross functional projects including setting scope, reaching consensus, executing on task and presenting results
  • Proficient in MS computer applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
