Assistant Legal Manager
Job Description
Purpose and Objective of Position
You will report to and work closely with the Head of Legal for China, in supporting DFS' business footprint within the PRC. In doing so, you will also work alongside other LCD members around the world as well as outside counsels and in accordance with the established LCD practices.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Preparing and reviewing legal documents including a variety of commercial and retail-related agreements in English and Chinese.
• Assisting in advising the company on its legal and compliance matters in the PRC.
• Working closely with DFS Global DPO and assisting on China data privacy protection and compliance in the PRC.
• Preparing documentation for the maintenance and/or formation of corporate entities.
• Working in tandem with LCD to deliver and enforce internal DFS policies and guidelines.
• Preparing legal training materials and conducting trainings.
• Updating standard contract templates.
• Managing legal knowledge database.
• Coordinating with outside counsels and corporate secretarial firms.
• Responding to requests from internal auditors and/or external auditors.
• Assisting with the handling of legal billing and budget.
• Responding to ad-hoc legal queries.

Key Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Educational Requirements:
• Law Degree from reputable law school in the PRC, with PRC practicing certificate
• Overseas education / working experience is a plus
Work Experience:
• 2-4 years PQE with experience in major national or international law firms in the PRC or in a corporate legal team of an MNC in the PRC
• Retail consumer products / fashion / construction / real estate field is a plus
Licenses / Certifications: PRC qualified
Critical knowledge & skills including tools, software applications, language, etc.
• Excellent verbal, and written communication skills in Chinese and English
• High proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word

• Spend time in Shenzhen and Hong Kong with LCD.

• Speak fluently in lay terms in both English and Chinese to a range of audiences about the business and legal priorities.
• Demonstrate knowledge of PRC corporate and commercial law, including company secretarial matters.

• Have strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines.
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a high energy level with an ability to handle a fast-paced, vigorous schedule.
• Marshall the appropriate level and mix of legal resources (internal and external) as required by circumstances.
• Continually raise the quality of both content and delivery of legal and compliance services to protect and promote the business.
• Demonstrate a positive, professional, and collaborative demeanour and strong business acumen to gain the confidence, trust and reliance of colleagues.
• Maintain established relationships with external legal resources characterized by credibility, respect, and trust.
• Demonstrate excellent written, verbal and listening skills in Chinese and English. French language skills are also desirable.
