The Food & Gifts Associate Planning Manager (Assoc PM) quantifies the merchandise strategy through development of the department financial plans and the Location/Brand/Class financial plans. The Assoc PM is responsible for maximizing the productivity of inventory, sales and gross margin in the execution of the regional market strategy. The Associate Planning Manager works in close partnership with the Planning Manager (PM) and regional Merchandise Director/Manager to build and execute a product assortment and investment that brings ROI and is relevant to the region’s traveling customers.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial and Strategic Planning
• Develops divisional budget plan and plans at location and brand/class level.
• Supports PM in establishing scenarios for budget planning.
• Partners with the region’s Merchandise Director/Managers to quantify the financial opportunities of new brands or businesses.
• Delivers the division’s Food and Gifts (F&G) financial targets; drive sales, margin and inventory turn as set in the budget plans. Open-To-Buy
• Maintains divisional OTB forecasts for F&G departments.
• Communicates and aligns with PM on OTB forecast, opportunities, risks, and financial strategies.
• Provides ongoing findings and information to F&G team members on sales results, competitive practices, logistics, and other specific information which could impact the performance of the business. F&G Business Reviews and Analysis
• Shares the divisions’ opportunities, risks, and strategies with the greater F&G team.
• Presents the divisions’ OTB forecasts.
• Provides analysis and timely feedback to PM on actual performance vs OTB forecasts and business issues/opportunities. Brand Relations
• Attends vendor meetings with PM and merchandising partners
• Manages all aspects relating to the product ordering process, in partnership with Demand Planning.
• Drives decision-making and problem solving on brand partner issues.
• Promotes a “win-win” approach with all brand partners. Purchase Order Management and Supply Chain
• Executes and submit timely purchase orders to vendors, in partnership with GMO (Global Merchandising Operation).
• Ensures that product moves efficiently through the supply chain.
• Partners with DFS Logistics, trouble shoots vendor shipping issues.
• Monitors freight costs and seeks optimal freight cost efficiency. Inventory Management
• Optimizes inventory level and manages inventory performance within target.
• Partners and communicates closely with R&A and Demand Planning on purchase orders, forecasts and allocation.
• Establishes and maintains key item, key brand/class, and key location focus.
• Manages overstock and expiry, implements markdown to accelerate depletion.
• Identifies slow sellers, and partners with Merchandising and vendors for solutions and/or exit strategies.
• Provides input to PM on markdown strategy and ensures communication/execution with divisions. System and Process Efficiency
• Learns and achieves proficiencies in merchandise systems and applications, e.g. TXT, Promotion Planning & Pricing tools.
• Supports team in adoption of new tools and systems through self-learning, peer training and timely feedback on system performance and issues.
• Leads integration of new processes which drives efficient way of working.
• Identifies opportunities in improving efficiency in merchandising work processes. People and Team Development
• Encourages and supports the development of talented people. Offers honest and constructive feedback to direct reports and business partners fostering individual and group development.
• Supports PM in managing the overall performance of all team members developing and recognizing the top talent and addressing the performance of team members with developmental areas. Division Partner Relations
• Develops and maintains effective working partnership with divisions particularly AGMs and PSMs while ensuring divisions execute category strategy appropriately.
• Drives decision-making and problem solving on the merchandise issues and location level.
• Ensures team results, relationships and processes are aligned with DFS mission and values.

Key Requirements:

• University Bachelor’s Degree
• Minimum of 6 years in a buying and/or planning function with financial and analytical merchandising background
• Strong MS Window, Excel, Powerpoint, Word
• Comfortable working in merchandise planning systems; e.g., TXT
• Local market business experience
• Negotiation experience required
• Business fluency in English language
• Leadership experience developing, managing and influencing people
